Lok Sabha Election: Congress Announces Coordinators For 539 Constituencies Across 7 States

Lok Sabha Election 2024: The Congress party released the names of coordinators for 539 Lok Sabha constituencies across seven states.

Amid preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, the Congress party on Sunday unveiled a list of coordinators assigned to assess the political landscape in 539 Lok Sabha constituencies across seven states. These coordinators are tasked with providing feedback to the party leadership for subsequent seat-sharing discussions within the I.N.D.I.A. Opposition bloc.

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh took to social media platform X to announce the development, stating, "The Congress party has just released the list of coordinators covering 539 Parliamentary constituencies with 4 more to come soon. Hain Taiyaar Hum! Badlega Bharat. Jeetega INDIA!"

The announcement follows Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge's remarks at a press conference on Saturday. Kharge emphasised that the party has finalised observers for all 500-plus constituencies. These observers, he explained, will have access to each Parliamentary Constituency, facilitating the party's decision-making process during negotiations within the I.N.D.I.A. bloc, news agency PTI reported.

"When the 'INDIA Alliance' is there, then, when negotiations occur in each state, then the exact number will come out." He added, "We are trying to put our efforts everywhere because today, we may think we are getting 'A' seat. Suppose our Alliance partners don't agree, then we may have to take the 'C' seat. Therefore, we are putting observers in each constituency," the Congress President explained, as quoted by PTI.

To streamline the intricate process of seat-sharing discussions, the Congress has constituted a five-member committee, with Mukul Wasnik as the convener, and senior leaders Ashok Gehlot and Bhupesh Baghel among its members. This committee has conducted internal consultations with state Congress chiefs and presented its findings to Congress Chief Kharge.

In a parallel development, formal negotiations for seat-sharing with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab and Delhi are set to commence on Monday, according to party sources cited by PTI.

Furthermore, the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee witnessed several appointments, including six vice-presidents, seven general secretaries, 19 secretaries, a treasurer, and 41 executive members.
