Land-For-Jobs Case: Delhi Court Grants Bail To Lalu Prasad, Rabri Devi, Tejwashwi Yadav

Delhi Court granted bail to Lalu Yadav, Rabri Devi, Tejashwi Yadav and Misa Bharti, in connection with the alleged land-for-jobs scam case.

Land-For-Jobs Case: Former Bihar CM and RJD chief Lalu Yadav, former Bihar CM Rabri Devi, Bihar Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav and RJD MP Misa Bharti were granted bail in the alleged land-for-jobs scam case on Wednesday. The next hearing of the case will take place on October 16.

The Delhi Rouse Avenue court has asked all the accused in the case to furnish a personal bail bond of Rs 50,000 each. The Court has also directed the CBI to serve a chargesheet copy to all accused in the matter.

Reacting to the bail granted in the case, Tejashwi Yadav said that this was a legal thing and the court has granted to them. "This was a legal thing, we appeared before the court (today). We have been granted bail by the court," Tejashwi Yadav said.

The Special Judge, Geetanjali Goel, took cognisance of a fresh charge sheet filed by the CBI on July 3 and passed the order issuing summons to all the accused, asking them to appear before it on October 4, officials said. Ahead of the hearing, the former Bihar CM said, "Hearings keep happening...Have we done anything that we need to be scared about?," as quoted by ANI.

Land-For-Jobs Case

The case pertains to people allegedly given employment in the railways, during the tenure of Lalu Prasad as the Railway Minister, in return for land parcels gifted or sold at cheap rates to the Yadav family and their associates. Lalu Yadav, Rabri Devi, Tejashwi Yadav, Misa Bharti reached Rouse Avenue Court in the national capital to appear in the case. 

According to the CBI, the accused had allegedly collected applications and documents of such candidates through associates and then sent those to West Central Railway for processing and providing jobs in railways, and the general managers of West Central Railways, under the influence and control of the accused, accorded approval for the engagement of candidates, as reported by ANI.

The investigation agency said that for providing jobs in railways, they allegedly devised an indirect way wherein the candidates were engaged firstly as substitutes and subsequently regularised. Earlier, on October 7, 2022, a chargesheet was filed against 16 accused.
