BJP government in Karnataka, Yeddyurappa to take oath as chief minister tomorrow

Karnataka BJP President BS Yeddyurappa will take oath as the new chief minister of the state on Thursday, a party MLA has claimed on Wednesday.

NEW DELHI: Putting an end to all speculations in Karnataka, the BJP today said its Karnataka legislature party leader BS Yeddyurappa would be sworn in as chief minister tomorrow morning after the governor has invited him to form the government. Only Yeddyurappa will take oath at a simple ceremony, sources said The Karnataka DGP has directed the state police to provide security to BJP leaders and MLAs in the wake of a possible protest by the Congress and the JD(S) during the oath-taking ceremony of Yeddyurappa. Both the BJP and JDS-Congress combine have staked claim to form the government in the state after it delivered a fractured verdict. Earlier on Wednesday, a BJP leader has said that Karnataka Yeddyurappa will take oath as the new chief minister of the state on Thursday. His claim was confirmed by the state BJP through its Twitter handle. "BS Yeddyurappa will be sworn in as Chief Minister of the state at Raj Bhavan tomorrow at 9.30 am," Suresh Kumar, who represents Rajajinagarar assembly constituency, wrote on Twitter in Kannada language. Earlier in the day, Yeddyurappa met Governor Vajubhai Vala and asked him to allow him to take oath as chief minister as the party had emerged the single largest party. Soon after he was elected leader of the BJP legislature party, Yeddyurappa drove to the Raj Bhavan here and handed him a letter about his unanimous election to the post. Yeddyurappa said he requested the governor to allow him to take oath as chief minister as early as possible. The governor, he said, had assured him that he would take an "appropriate" decision as early as possible. "We are 100 per cent confident that he will take a decision immediately," Yeddyurappa told reporters. After Yeddyurappa, JDS and Congress leaders on met Vajubhai Vala at Raj Bhawan and submitted a list claiming support of 117 MLAs . The HD Kumaraswamy-led delegation urged the Governor to consider their claim for government formation.
