Karnataka Political Turmoil Turns Fierce as BJP Confident Of Forming Government in 4-5 Days

Karnataka Political Crisis: Hours after Karnataka Assembly Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar scheduled the trust vote session for the Janata Dal Secular (JDS)-Congress coalition government in state on July 18, Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state believes that it will form the government in the next 4-5 days. BJP's Karnataka unit chief BS Yeddyurappa on Monday said he was confident of forming the government in the next four to five days. Kumar fixed July 18 for taking up the confidence motion moved by Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy, whose government is on the verge of collapse after 16 MLAs resigned from the assembly. "I am quite confident that BJP government will come into existence in the next three to four days. The BJP will give the best administration in Karnataka," Yeddyurappa told reporters on Monday.  Yeddyurappa claimed Kumaraswamy would fail to save the coalition government. "Kumaraswamy will not be able to continue as chief minister. He too knows it. I think he will quit after making a good speech (in the assembly)," Yeddyurappa, who had quit in similar circumstances early last year, said. Kumaraswamy government would need 105 MLAs to retain the government but it has only 101 (if resignations of 16 rebel MLAs are accepted) while, BJP on the other hand has 105 lawmakers in the assembly along with support of two more independent MLAs. Yeddyurappa had stepped down as chief minister before the confidence motion was taken up for voting as he failed to muster enough numbers for the BJP which had emerged as the single largest party with 105 seats in the 224-member House. Even the rebel MLAs have moved Supreme Court with a plea to direct Speaker to accept their resignations. Currently, the ruling coalition's total strength is 116 (Congress-78, JDS-37 and BSP-1), besides the Speaker.
