Kanpur: Hospital apathy claims 5 lives; authorities deny charges
The attendants, who also suffered due to non-functioning ACs were compelled to use hand fans to comfort the patients.
Kanpur: In yet another incident of hospital negligence in Uttar Pradesh, 5 people lost their lives at Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital, which is affiliated to Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Memorial College (GSVM).
The incident took place because the air conditioners of the Intensive Care Unit were not working properly for two days, causing distress to the patients on Thursday, June 7.
The attendants, who also suffered due to non-functioning ACs were compelled to use hand fans to comfort the patients.
The ACs were not working properly since Wednesday, but they finally stopped functioning on Thursday. They were repaired earlier that day, but it did not help.
Denying the allegations, Principal of GSVM, Navneet Kumar, said that 2 deaths occurred due to cardiac arrest and the other 2 occurred due to chronic illness and that it had nothing to do with the poor condition of the air conditioners. He further assured that the AC plant will be repaired soon.
