Jharkhand: JMM MLAs Arrive In Ranchi, Express Confidence Ahead Of Monday's Trust Vote

Jharkhand News: Approximately 40 legislators, who had arrived in Hyderabad on February 2, returned to Ranchi before the trust vote is slated to take place on Monday.

After their return to Ranchi from Hyderabad on Sunday evening, the MLAs of Jharkhand's JMM-led alliance expressed confidence in winning the trust vote scheduled for Monday. The legislators arrived at Birsa Munda Airport in a chartered flight and were subsequently transported to the Circuit House in two buses.

Minister Alamgir Alam, highlighting the unity among their members, stated, "Our MLAs are united... We have the support of 48 to 50 legislators."

“Our alliance will definitely win the ‘Vote of Confidence’ with good numbers tomorrow. We have (support of) 48 MLAs,” Congress MLA Alamgir Alam told news agency PTI on the floor test in the Jharkhand Assembly.

JMM lawmaker Mithilesh Thakur echoed this sentiment, asserting that the coalition is poised to succeed in the trust vote. Thakur also claimed that several BJP legislators are supporting the alliance in the state, PTI reported.

However, Chief Whip of the BJP, Biranchi Narain, offered a contrasting view, predicting the coalition's defeat in the trust vote on Monday. He alleged that the MLAs in Hyderabad were under strict surveillance, suggesting a lack of confidence in their victory.

Narain remarked, "This reflects it is the Hemant Soren government part 2, which will also indulge in corruption and malpractices." The BJP, in response, convened a legislature party meeting on Sunday to strategize its opposition to the trust motion, citing concerns about the continuation of Hemant Soren's policies.

The ruling JMM-led alliance, consisting of JMM, Congress, and RJD with a total of 47 MLAs, had sent about 38 legislators to a resort in Hyderabad for the past three days, amid fears of potential poaching attempts by the BJP before the trust vote. A video released by the coalition claimed the support of 43 legislators in the 81-member Jharkhand Assembly.

The trust vote comes after Champai Soren, the JMM legislature party leader, took oath as the Chief Minister on Friday, succeeding Hemant Soren, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case. A special PMLA court granted Hemant Soren permission to participate in the trust vote after being remanded to ED custody for five days.

The alliance government, also supported by a lone CPIML(L) legislator from outside, faces a crucial test on the first day of the two-day assembly session. The opposition BJP is gearing up to challenge the trust motion, expressing concerns about the continuity of policies from the previous government.

BJP Framed Hemant Soren In False Cases: Jharkhand CM Champai Soren

In another development, Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren, addressing a party workers' rally on the 52nd foundation day of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) in Dhanbad, accused the BJP of framing his predecessor Hemant Soren in false cases. He alleged that these false charges were orchestrated to perpetuate the exploitation of the state's mineral resources.

"When Hemant Soren came to power in 2019 and stopped them from doing so, they framed him in false cases," claimed Chief Minister Champai Soren, as quoted by PTI. The CM further asserted that the BJP, along with external entities, had been involved in the plunder of Jharkhand's minerals for 19 years.

Hemant Soren, the former Chief Minister, had resigned on January 31, succeeding a lengthy interrogation by the Enforcement Directorate in connection to a money laundering case linked to an alleged land fraud, followed by his subsequent arrest.

"Hemant Soren had initiated steps to ensure the rights of tribal through 1932 Khatiyan based domicile policy and 75 per cent job reservation for local youths in private companies. The BJP could not digest these, and they used central agencies against him," added CM Champai Soren, as per PTI.

The Chief Minister's accusations against the BJP were made during the party's foundation day celebration at the Golf Ground in Dhanbad, where he highlighted the efforts of the JMM in championing the rights of tribals and the indigenous population in the state.

The JMM, founded on February 4, 1972, celebrated its 52nd foundation day at the Golf Ground. The message from party president Shibu Soren, who could not attend the event due to health issues, was read out by party MP Vijay Hansda as he called for continued support for his son Hemant Soren.
