Background
Jharkhand Government Floor Test HIGHLIGHTS: Jharkhand's newly established Champai Soren administration will seek a trust vote in the legislature on Monday. The state was thrown into a political crisis after Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) president Hemant Soren resigned as president Minister and was later detained on January 31 by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money laundering case. On February 1, Governor C P Radhakrishnan named Champai Soren, the state transport minister and JMM leader, as Chief Minister-designate.
Meanwhile, 40 MLAs from Jharkhand's JMM-led coalition, who had been transported to Hyderabad for three days because to fears of horse trade, returned to Ranchi on Sunday evening. The legislators were confident of winning the trust vote in the assembly on Monday, shortly after their return. A special court has also authorised the former CM to take the floor test today.
The ruling alliance now has 47 MLAs in the 81-member Jharkhand Assembly, after Gandey MLA Sarfaraz Ahmed resigned on January 2 apparently to accommodate Hemant Soren's wife Kalpana, as the former Chief Minister's arrest appeared likely. The JMM has 29 MLAs, while its partners, Congress and RJD, have 17 and one, respectively. According to sources, Vinod Singh, the only CPI(ML) MP, has also extended its support to the alliance.
Hemant Soren, Jharkhand's former chief minister, will be released from jail on Monday to vote during the floor test, after a special court in Ranchi granted him permission on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the BJP's top whip, Biranchi Narain, stated that the JMM-led alliance was likely to lose the vote of confidence. "The MLAs in Hyderabad were kept under strict surveillance, which indicates that they were not confident of winning," added Singh.
Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Sunday stated that he was confident that the INDIA alliance parties will win the floor test in the 81-member Jharkhand assembly.

"We have a majority in the 81-seat Assembly...Even Hemant Soren has been permitted by the special court (to cast his vote). This is a conspiracy by the ED. We will win the floor test. It has been clear from the start that the Modi government has been misusing the ED, CBI and Income Tax departments against the INDIA members. They are no longer independent institutions," Ramesh was quoted saying by news agency ANI.
