Officials stated that the terrorists hurled a grenade at the security forces near the government residential quarters.

Srinagar: A terrorist attack on Friday took place in Jammu and Kashmir's Chanapora area. Security forces deployed in the area were attacked by a group of militants who hurled grenades at them. The incident left one CRPF jawan injured.

Security forces have cordoned off the entire area. Officials stated that the terrorists hurled a grenade at the security forces near the government residential quarters. Other than CRPF personnel, a woman was also injured in the blast.

Srinagar Hotbed Of Terror Activities In J&K:

Despite a 40 per cent reduction in the number of terrorist incidents in Jammu and Kashmir compared to last year, the capital Srinagar has overtaken few districts in South Kashmir to become a new hub for terrorist activities.

According to an official, Srinagar alone recorded 16 terrorism-related incidents, which is 21 per cent of the total 75 incidents in the Valley so far this year. With these figures, it has surpassed the traditional strongholds of terrorism like Pulwama, Anantnag, and Shopian.

Srinagar even has the highest IED explosives recovered, three of the total 8 IEDs are recovered so far from Srinagar.

Of the 75 terrorist incidents reported in the Valley this year, Srinagar recorded the highest number of incidents (16, 20 percent), a much higher number than in previous years (2019- 6 percent, 2005- 5 percent).

However this year, shift in focus can be clearly seen. Security forces have assessed that the increased terrorist activities in Srinagar is the result of recruitment drive launched by the Resistance Front (TRF), a front of the Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LET).
