Jammu & Kashmir: 430 km  Srinagar- Sonamarg- Leh road closed for over a week is likely to be thrown open for vehicular traffic today. While the area witnessed heavy snowfall during last week, the Zojilla pass received over five feet of snow.

Border Roads Organization is putting up all its efforts to clear the road off the snow by pressing additional men and equipment at 11500 feet at Zojila top.

The area witnessed a heavy spell of snowfall over the past five days snapping the communication link with Ladakh. The area is facing shortage of essential supplies as well as fresh vegetables.

An official of Project Beacon said that the snow clearance team are fighting nature as cold biting winds bring along snow storms at this altitude hampering the snow clearance operation.

“Despite all the odds we are expecting to open the highway today provided all goes well,” said the BRO official.
