"The mails have been sent to all, irrespective of any particular community. This is not the first instance. Earlier also such activities have been undertaken by IRCTC to promote government welfare schemes in the public interest," IRCTC said in a statement in a report by PTI.
According to media reports, around 1.9 crore emails between December 8 and December 12 were sent with the booklet 'PM Modi and his government's special relationship with Sikhs' to its customer database. The booklets were in Hindi, English, and Punjabi. While reports say that yeh Sikh community was especially targeted, IRCTC has said that the emails were sent to its entire customer database and that it was discontinued on December 12. In a report by PTI, officials have said that emails were sent to the entire database, where passengers key in their details while booking tickets.
Meanwhile, the farmer's protest is set to intensify further as several rounds of talks with the government failed. The heads of all the farmer unions protesting against the new farm laws will observe a daylong hunger strike on Monday.
