"Independence Day will be celebrated in all schools. Directions should be conveyed to all the CEOs, Principals/ headmasters to host national flag at all schools. Videos and photos of the function will be uploaded on google drive," a government order said.
Burhan Wani was killed along with two other militants, later identified as Sartaj Ahmad Sheikh and Pervaiz Ahmad Lashkari, during an encounter by the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district earlier on July 8, 2016.
Wani’s death had triggered widespread protests across Kashmir that lasted for nearly five months leading to loss of many lives, while several others were injured.
Wani’s killing was described as a major success for the security forces because he was allegedly instrumental in brainwashing many local boys to take up the gun.
The 22-year-old, who was a school dropout, had reportedly recruited numerous foot-soldiers through his personal efforts.
