IED Destroyed In Jammu-Kashmir's Baramulla Ahead Of Independence Day — VIDEO

A bomb disposal squad destroyed an IED found in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir. A video of the incident also surfaced on social media.

A suspected improvised explosive device (IED) was destroyed by the Bomb Disposal Squad in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir earlier on Monday, a day ahead of Independence Day. The security forces detected the device earlier today when a patrolling team of the army and police found the suspected explosive in a bag near a college in the Kanispora area of the district in the afternoon, news agency PTI reported officials as saying.

A bomb disposal squad was summoned to the spot which destroyed the IED without causing any damage, officials cited by PTI said.

A video of the incident also surfaced on social media.

Previously, a suspicious bag was spotted by the roadside at Heeri in Kupwara district of north Kashmir.

"An explosive shell has been recovered from the bag which was later destroyed by the BDS," an official said, as quoted by PTI.

This comes as the BSF is stepping up vigil along the Line of Control (LoC) ahead of Independence Day.

According to PTI's report, Constable Sanjeev Kumar Rai informed that the BSF troopers along the Line of Control have to step up vigilance to foil inimical forces' evil designs to create a disturbance on the eve of Independence Day.

"While the nation prepares to celebrate the Independence Day, our enemy also plans on how to create disturbances here. To tackle their designs, we get orders from the high command for upping the vigil along the Line of Control and border by way of patrolling and area domination exercises. We try our best to live up to the expectations," Rai said.

He stated that the jawans posted along the LoC have to exhibit a higher level of alertness due to tough terrain.

"We have to increase the alertness because this is an area of dense vegetation where one cannot be sure of the identity of a person even at a short distance of 50 metres. We have to stay alert to any suspicious movement of terrorists while also ensuring our own safety. The dangers at the LoC are anyways more compared to normal borders, he added, as quoted by PTI.
