Jammu & Kashmir: Arrested Cop Davinder Singh Stripped Of 'Sher-e-Kashmir' Police Medal For Gallantry

The withdrawal of the medal was done through an order issued today by the Home Department signed by Shaleen Kabra, IAS, Principal Secretary to government, Home Department.

New Delhi: The Jammu and Kashmir government, on Wednesday,  'forfeited' the Sher-e-Kashmir Police Medal for Gallantry, awarded to the now-dismissed DSP of the J&K Police, Davinder Singh, days after he was arrested while escorting Hizbul terrorists outside the valley. The withdrawal of the medal was done through an order issued today by the Home Department signed by Shaleen Kabra, IAS, Principal Secretary to government, Home Department. The order said that the J&K has stripped the Sher-e-Kashmir Police Medal for Gallantry awarded to Dy SP Davinder Singh consequent to his arrest on January 11 while trying to assist terrorists to travel outside J&K and recovery of arms and ammunition "which amounts to disloyalty and conduct that has brought upon the force into disrepute". The medal was awarded to him on August 14, 2018. Also Read: J&K Police Dismiss Tainted DSP Davinder Singh For Hizbul Links; Case Handed Over To NIA The Jammu & Kashmir police on Tuesday said that only gallantry medal was awarded to Singh during his service, and dismissed reports that he was given President's Police Medal for Meritorious Service on Independence Day 2019. Davinder Singh on Wednesday was dismissed from the police department days after being arrested along with two Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists, sources said. Singh's dismissal from the Jammu and Kashmir Police Department came soon after the investigation of the case was handed over to National Investigation Agency (NIA) earlier in the day. The Jammu and Kashmir police had on Sunday intercepted a vehicle and arrested Singh along with two top Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists while they were travelling together.
