Jammu & Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Girish Murmu Resigns On Article 370 Abrogation Anniversary: Reports

August 5 marks the completion of one year of the abrogation of special status to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370.

Srinagar: In a sudden development, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Girish Chandra Murmu has resigned from his post on Wednesday. According to the reports, Murmu sent his resignation to President Ram Nath Kovind. However, there is no confirmation whether his resignation letter has been received by the President and if it has been accepted or rejected. The air further bolstered when National Conference leader Omar Abdullah took to the Twitter saying, "What’s with all this chatter surrounding the LG of J&K? Came out of nowhere a few hours ago and suddenly it’s all over social media and WhatsApp in J&K." It is to be noted that Murmu's resignation has come exactly a year after Home Minister Amit Shah announced of revoking Article 370 and Article 35A from Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated the state into two Union territories as J&K and Ladakh. August 5 marks the completion of one year of the abrogation of special status to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370. ALSO READ | RK Mathur Sworn In As First Lt Governor Of Ladakh, Umang Narula To Be His Advisor Murmu took oath as the first lieutenant governor of Jammu and Kashmir, following the official notification about the creation of the two union territories. A 1985 batch IAS officer from Gujarat, Murmu was principal secretary to Narendra Modi during his tenure as Chief Minister of Gujarat. He is one of the youngest governors in the country who was administered the oath of office by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Justice Gita Mittal at a ceremony held at Raj Bhawan at the foothills of Zeberwan range.
