New Delhi: The Indian Army foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district and killed one terrorist on Sunday, news agency PTI quoted police as saying. The security forces also recovered arms and ammunition from the militant.
Based on an input on possible infiltration bids, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by police and the Army in the Dakhen-Amrohi area of Tangdhar Sector in Kupwara, reported PTI.
"During the search operation, movement of terrorists, trying to infiltrate to our side, was observed. They were challenged by the joint party in which one terrorist was neutralized," PTI quoted a police spokesperson as saying.
The official further said that although one militant was killed, two or three others fled to the Pakistan side taking advantage of the thick bushes and rugged terrain.
Taking to Twitter, Kashmir Police wrote, “Army and Kupwara police in a joint operation foiled an infiltration bid by neutralising a terrorist on LoC in Amrohi area of Tangdhar Sector. The security forces recovered arms and ammunition, including one AK rifle, an AK magazine, 15 AK rounds, 5 9mm pistols, one 15mm pistol, eight pistol magazines, 32 9mm pistol rounds and 9 15mm pistol rounds from the site of the encounter, police said.
However, the identity and group affiliation of the militant is yet to be ascertained.
"The recovery of these materials underscores the nefarious intentions of the infiltrators and their attempts to disrupt peace and stability in the region," the police spokesperson said, as quoted by PTI.
