New Delhi: Amid the escalating fight between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the Jahangirpuri violence that broke out on Saturday, Atishi - an MLA of the ruling party in Delhi - claimed that the prime accused Md Ansar is a leader of the saffron party.

In her tweet, Atishi also shared pictures of Ansar sharing podiums with several BJP leaders.

"The main accused in the Jahangirpuri riots - Ansar - is a BJP leader. He played a major role in getting BJP's candidate Sangeeta Bajaj to contest and plays an active role in BJP. It is clear that the BJP got the riots done. BJP should apologise to Delhiites. BJP is a party of goons," Atishi tweeted in Hindi.

Both AAP and BJP have been accusing each other of having links with Ansar, who has been identified as the main accused along with another person named Md Aslam in the communal clashes which broke out in Delhi's Jahangirpuri area during a Hanuman Jayanti procession.

Eight policemen and a civilian were injured in the incident.

Atishi's explosive revelation comes a day after BJP leader Manoj Tiwari called AAP a "riots factory" and even alleged that Ansar was linked to the party.

"The mastermind of the attack in Jahangirpuri - Md Ansar - has been found to be a worker of AAP. There are evidences of this in the form of photographs. Tahir Hussain who was the mastermind of the Delhi riots in 2020 was also an AAP councilor. Is AAP running a riots factory?" Tiwari said in a video tweet.

The Delhi Police has so far held 22 people and apprehended two juveniles in connection with the incident. According to them, Md Ansar and Md Aslam were the main conspirators who got to know about the 'Shobha Yatra' on April 15 and hatched up a conspiracy to create trouble.
