Lucknow: As many as eight youths were arrested after a video of class 10 Dalit student being physically assaulted and made to lick the feet of a man surfaced on social media recently. A senior police officer informed that the incident took place on April 10, however, the video went viral on social media on Sunday.


According to reports, the incident took place in Uttar Pradesh's Raebareli the boy, who is a resident of Jagatpur town, was taken to Ramlila Maidan on a motorcycle by his friend on April 10.


Speaking to news agency PTI, the Police further informed that the victim was later taken towards Salon Road, from where some other youths took him to a garden. The accused men beat him up in the garden.


Further, the youths even forced the boy to lick the feet of one of the accused and a video of the entire incident was recorded and later shared on social media.


Police lodged a complaint and later arrested the accused after the boy along with his mother reached Kotwali police station to report the issue.


Dalmau Circle Officer (CO) Ashok Singh has said that an FIR under relevant sections has been registered in the matter and eight accused have been arrested and sent to jail.


There has been no clarification on the reasons as to why the boy was assaulted.


Case has been registered under under relevant sections including Scheduled Caste Tribes Prevention of Atrocities Act (SC-ST Act), 147 (imprisonment for two years for nuisance), 149 (every member of the public group guilty of an offense committed by a member of an unlawful public group) and 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation).
