2 UP Workers Killed In Terrorist Attack In J&K's Shopian Two Days After Kashmiri Pandit Shot Dead

Imran Bashir Ganie, a member of the outlawed group LeT who killed two labourers with a grenade in Herman, Shopian, was apprehended by authorities there.

Two days after the killing of Kashmiri Pandit in Shopian, Imran Bashir Ganie of Harmen, a terrorist with the Lashkar-e-Taiba lobbed a hand grenade in Shopian killing two UP workers, according to authorities, news agency ANI reported. He was later nabbed by Jammu and Kashmir police.

Imran Bashir Ganie, a member of the outlawed group LeT who killed two labourers with a grenade in Herman, Shopian, was apprehended by authorities there. The workers, named as Monish Kumar and Ram Sagar, both of Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh, were seriously hurt and taken to the hospital, where they passed away.

“The area has been cordoned off by the Jammu and Kashmir Police following the investigation”, ADGP Kashmir zone Vijay Kumar was quoted by ANI in its report.

In response to the recent killings, Kavinder Gupta, former J&K Dy CM said: "Killing of non-local labourers Monish Kumar & Ram Sagar is unfortunate & wrong. I also feel that these are also done on the basis of statements given by leaders sitting in Kashmir. They should stop giving such statements & advocating for Pakistan."

"Under the leadership of PM Modi, work to uproot Pakistan-sponsored terrorism from India is being done. We will take action by identifying such people. You will see the results soon," UP Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak said.

Two terrorists with ties to the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) were defeated in the Anantnag encounter earlier this month.

The Kashmir Zone Police claims that the terrorists were involved in several incidents of terrorism-related crimes.

“Two local categorised terrorists linked with proscribed terror outfit LeT killed in encounter. They were involved in several terror crime cases,” Kashmir Zone Police had tweeted.

Recent Attacks In Jammu & Kashmir

Earlier this month, terrorists shot and killed Kashmiri Pandit farmer Puran Krishan Bhat outside his ancestral home in the Chowdhary Gund area of south Kashmir's Shopian district, where he had gone to tend to his orchards. On Sunday, Bhat was cremated in Jammu.

In August, a Kashmiri Pandit was shot dead and his brother injured after militants opened fire at them in the Shopian. The deceased was identified as Sunil Kumar and his injured brother as Pintu Kumar.

While India celebrated its 75th Independence Day, terrorists threw a grenade at a house in Budgam, injuring a civilian identified as Karan Kumar Singh who was shifted to a Srinagar hospital.

Militants have stepped up attacks in the Kashmir valley targeting minorities and security personnel.

A policeman was killed in Nowhatta and a migrant labourer in Bandipora in August. Two grenade attacks took place in Budgam and Srinagar districts on August 15.
