J Dey murder verdict: Gangster Chhota Rajan, 8 others get life imprisonment
At the time of the murder, Dey was riding his bike and the shooters killed him after stalking him for some time. He was immediately taken to the nearby Hiranandani hospital, which declared him ‘brought dead’.
MUMBAI: A special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court on Wednesday sentenced gangster Chhota Rajan and eight others to life imprisonment in journalist Jyotirmoy Dey (J Dey) murder case. The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 26 lakh on each of the convicts.
The court, on the other hand, acquitted Mumbai based journalist Jigna Vora and Paulsen Joseph.
Dey, who was working for English publication Mid Day was shot dead by underworld shooters in 2011 in Mumbai’s Powai, who on the orders of gangster Chhota Rajan; fired 5 bullets in Dey’s body.
At the time of the murder, Dey was riding his bike and the shooters killed him after stalking him for some time. He was immediately taken to the nearby Hiranandani hospital, which declared him ‘brought dead’.
How did Rajan come in light?
Soon Mumbai police started its probe in the case and held the shooters who killed Dey.
After probing the case, Mumbai police found that underworld don Chhota Rajan got J Dey killed over suspicion. Rajan had suspected that ‘Dey is involved with his foe Dawood; which is why he was writing against Rajan in his newspaper’.
Rajan also suspected that Dey is helping the D-company and is planning to get him killed; as Dey was called for meetings in London and Philippines.
J-Dey was writing book on underworld:
Zero Dial is a famous book written by J-Dey. He has in total two books on underworld. When he was killed his third book on Chhota Rajan was underway, where he wanted to present all facts of Rajan’s life. To research on Rajan he met a lot of people, which included people who were his opponents. This made Rajan suspect that he was working for Dawood.
