J&K: 2 militants killed; Army major, 3 soldiers martyred during infiltration bid

An Army major and three soldiers were killed in an exchange of fire while foiling an infiltration bid in north Kashmir’s Gurez area.

NEW DELHI: An army major and three other soldiers of 36RR were martyred north Kashmir’s Gurez as the Army foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) on Tuesday. Deputy Commissioner Shahid Choudhary called it a ceasefire violation, SSP Bandipora Sheikh Zulfikar said that the initial reports suggested the movement of militants in the area. News agency PTI reported that the incident happened while foiling infiltration bid where 8 terrorists tried to enter the area. Sources claim that there was a suspicious militant movement in Gurez area of North Kashmir close to LoC during the night where militants were trying to infiltrate. The army conducted a search operation along the LoC in the Nane sector in Baktoor, Gurez this morning after the overnight shelling by Pakistan troops and movement of militants in the area. In the operation, 2 terrorists were killed while the other 6 were able to return back. Some gunshots were also heard in the area after which search was started. ABP News sources in the army said two militant bodies spotted more while more are believed to be there. More details awaited as searches still going on.
