Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has called his grandmother and former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi, his strength and source of the values that he has learned in his life. Remembering Gandhi on her birth anniversary on Sunday, he said for the people of India she would always be a PM or a leader, but for him, she is his grandmother and teacher. The Congress MP shared an old and rare photo of him with Indira Gandhi on X, formerly Twitter, from during his childhood days.


"For India, a people's leader, Prime Minister. For me, my grandmother, my teacher. The values taught by you of dedication to the country and people are the strength of my every step, the strength of my thinking!", the Congress leader said in the X post.






The Congress party saluted the former Indian PM saying she "played an important role in making India a world power with her efficient leadership, foresight and determination".


"Our humble tribute to India's first woman Prime Minister and our icon, Indira Gandhi on her birth anniversary," the party said on X.






Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge also paid tribute to the country's first and only woman PM to date. He said, "In preserving the unity and integrity of India and in making our country strong and progressive, she consistently displayed skillful leadership, true loyalty and strong willpower for India and sacrificed everything for the country. She dedicated her life to the duty for the country and indomitable courage that will always inspire millions of Indians."






Sonia Gandhi and other senior leaders of the party also paid tributes to the leader on her birth anniversary.
