New  Delhi: A solider of the Indian Army was killed on Monday in yet another brazen violation of ceasefire by Pakistani forces in Jammu & Kashmir’s Rajouri district. Earlier in the day, the Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing and shelling on the Line of Control in Nowshera sector of Rajouri and Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch. The martyred jawan has been identified as India Army's Havildar Dipak Karki. As per sources, the Army is retaliating befittingly at both the places. This comes at a time when India is already having heightened tensions at Indo-China border in Ladakh. The incidents of ceasefire violation by Pakistan have risen sharply since last one month along the Line of Control.

India and Pakistan had a bilateral ceasefire agreement in October 2003, which has been flouted at regular intervals by Pakistan.

The repeated instances have adversely affected the livelihoods of people residing near the border in Poonch, Rajouri, Jammu, Baramulla, Kupwara and Bandipora districts.

In 2019, a total 3,200 incidents of ceasefire violations by Pakistan across the LoC were reported as compared to 1,629 incidents in 2018, the Ministry of Defence had stated.

Fourth soldier's death on LoC this month:

Havildar Dipak Karki's is the fourth death of Army solider in the month of June. Previously on June 4, Havaldar P Mathiazhagan had lost his life in shelling in Sunderbani in Rajouri district, another one laid his life in Tarkundi sector in Rajouri on June 10. After that a 29-year-old solider died in Poonch district on June 14th.
