The Indian security forces shot down a drone flying into the Indian side from along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district on Wednesday.  The drone was recovered from the BERI Pattan area of the Sunderbani sector during joint searches by the Army troops and Jammu and Kashmir Police.

Cash worth Rs 2 lakh, 131 rounds of AK 47 rifle and five magazines were recovered from the packet attached to the drone.

At around 10:30 amon Wednesday, a buzzing sound of a drone was heard by locals of Trakri, Kangri village near the Beripattan bridge. Locals informed the 16 Dogra- Army unit stationed in Sunderbani and Sunderbani police. In a joint operation, the Police, Army, and Sunderbani's Intelligence Bureau at around 11:45 pm recovered the drone along with the consignment, according to sources.

It is suspected that the drone fell onto the ground after hitting either a tree or a hill. The location from where the drone was recovered by the Special Forces was approx 2-3 kilometres away from the Line Of Control (LOC).

At around 1:30 pm, the recovered packet and hexacopter having 04 batteries were taken to the 28th Infantry Brigade and opened.

"A drone intruding into Indian territory by crossing the Line of Control from Pakistan (side) was shot down last night in the Beri Pattan area of Sundarbani sector of Rajouri. 131 rounds of AK-47, 5 magazines, and Rs 2 lakh in cash have been recovered. Search operation underway," news agency ANI quoted PRO Defence Jammu as saying.

ANI tweeted a video of the time when the drone was recovered.

Meanwhile, the army has further launched a search operation in the area.

Earlier, on April 9, the Indian Army foiled a major infiltration in the Poonch sector where one intruder was killed and two others were captured alive.
