Haven't Abandoned People Of Afghanistan, Our Ally Will Continue: Indian Ambassador After Safe Return

Indian Ambassador Rudrendra Tandon said that "though we have returned to our homeland, we haven't abandoned the people of Afghanistan and our ally will continue. "

New Delhi: Rudrendra Tandon, India’s envoy to Kabul safely returned to India along with several other Indian Embassy officials, staff and Indian Citizens. After safe evacuation from Taliban-captured Kabul on Tuesday morning, Rudrendra Tandon while addressing the media said that the Afghanistan capital has been fully taken over by Taliban.

With the Islamic outfit claiming full control over the capital and other major province, the situation appears to be serious as of now as people are under state of fear, said Ambassador R. Tandon.

The official further said that though we have returned to our homeland, it's not that we've abandoned people of Afghanistan, their welfare and our relationship with them is very much in our mind. We'll try and continue our interaction with them, I can't exactly say in what form as situation is changing.

Speaking on the repetriation of the remaining Indians in Kabul, the envoy said, "We're continuously monitoring the situation because there are still some Indian citizens who are there. That is why Air India will continue to run its commercial services to Kabul as long as the airport in Kabul functions."

"Temporarily Air India had to suspend its commercial services because of the conditions in the airport. However, we continue to ensure that anyone who is stuck there is somehow brought here for which the MEA has opened a help desk that is operating already," R Tondon added.

Earlier today, at least 150 Indians returned home from Afghanistan in a commercial flight that landed in Jamnagar, Gujarat.
