India Becomes Member Of UN's Economic And Social Council Body, China Fails To Secure Seat

New Delhi: In a significant achievement on the international podium, India has been elected as a member of the the Commission on Status of Women (CSW), a body of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). The information regarding the same was shared by TS Tirumurti, a permanent representative of India to the United Nations, on Tuesday morning (IST). India elected member of Commission on Status of Women (CSW). It's a ringing endorsement of our commitment to promote gender equality and women's empowerment in all our endeavours. We thank member states for their support." As per reports, India will be a member of the prestigious body for four years, 2021 to 2025. It is worth noting that three countries including India, China and Afghanistan had contested the elections to the United Nation's Commission on Status of Women. While on India and Afghanistan won the ballot among the 54 members, China could not cross the half-way mark. This year is the 25th anniversary of the Beijing World Conference on Women (1995). The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women. The CSW is an international body dedicated to promote women’s rights, bring forth the reality of women’s lives throughout the world and help in shaping global standards on gender equality and the empowerment of women.
