Himachal Pradesh Election 2022 Date: Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday announced the dates for polling to be held in  Himachal Pradesh to elect 68 members of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly. Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar made the announcement of dates for the assembly polls to be held in Himachal Pradesh at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.


The Himachal assembly poll ( Himachal Vidhan Sabha election) will be held in a single phase and the date of polling is November 12. The last date to file the nomination is October 25 and the counting of votes for the Himachal Pradesh assembly election will take place on December 8.




With the announcement from the ECI, the Model Code of Conduct comes into effect.


Addressing the press conference, CEC Rajiv Kumar urged poll-bound states to follow the COVID-19 norms set by the health ministry.


"First and foremost thing and conducting an election is the electoral roll," he mentioned as he said that the commission laid special emphasis on registration of new age voters, transgenders, and persons with disabilities.


The CEC also informed that a certain number of polling stations will be managed by women and PWD staff respectively.


The tenure of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly is scheduled to end on January 8, 2023.

Himachal Pradesh 2017 Assembly Election


In the 2017 Himachal Pradesh assembly election, BJP won 44 out of 68 seats and formed the government. Congress was ousted from power and was able to gain only 21 assembly seats. Besides these two parties, CPI(M) was able to get one seat while two independent candidates won two Vidhan sabha seats.


After BJP won the assembly election in Himachal, it appointed Jai Ram Thakur to become the Chief Minister of the state.

According to the ABP News-CVoter Opinion Poll 2022, BJP’s vote share has slightly dipped as compared to the state elections held in 2017. The vote share of Congress also witnessed a dent, a drop of 8 per cent from the previous assembly election, as per the ABP-Cvoter survey.


The new entrant Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is carving out a vote share of 9.5 per cent, as per the ABP News-CVoter Opinion Poll 2022, which is decreasing the share percentage of other parties.
