Himachal Logged 'Loss Of Over Rs 10,000 Cr': CM Sukhu Says Govt Expecting Special Central Package

So far, at least 75 people have died in Himachal Pradesh, and hundreds more have been homeless as a result of landslides and floods.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Saturday said that amidst the disaster caused by the recent heavy rains, floods and landslides, the state has witnessed a loss more than Rs 10,000 crores. CM Sukhu further stated that the state government "expect a special package from the Prime Minister of the country," news agency ANI reported. 

Speaking with ANI, CM Sukhu stated: "If rains don't happen in the coming days then our work will speed up...I had a meeting with PM Modi and he listened to us carefully. He also gave instructions...We have declared a natural calamity in the state."

Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi presided over a high-level meeting to examine the Monsoon fury in Himachal Pradesh. In numerous sections of the state, heavy rains have caused flash floods, cloudbursts, landslides, and slope failure. So far, at least 75 people have died in Himachal Pradesh, and hundreds more have been homeless as a result of landslides and floods.

According to the state disaster management, 1,762 dwellings have been completely destroyed and 8,952 have been partially destroyed, with 113 landslides occuring during this year's monsoon season.

Meanwhile, a yellow alert has been issued in all ten districts of Himachal Pradesh for August 21 and 22. Despite the fact that the state's monsoon activity was calm on Friday, the local meteorological service issued a yellow warning for isolated regions. Light to moderate rain is forecast in a few spots in the lower and middle hills throughout the next 48 hours. According to the Meteorological Department, significant rainfall is forecast to begin on August 21 and last through August 24.

Rajasthan Govt Provides Rs 15 Crore Aid To Disaster-Hit Himachal Pradesh: CM Sukhu

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Saturday stated that Rajasthan has contributed Rs 15 crore to help with the tragedy caused by recent severe rains, floods, and landslides.

This comes a day after Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel pledged a Rs 11 crore financial aid to Himachal Pradesh.

In a statement, Sukhu expressed his thanks, as well as the gratitude of the people of Himachal, to Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot for his aid. He stated that the assistance will go a long way towards helping disaster-stricken families.

Sukhu also requested various organisations and the general public to contribute generously to the state's disaster relief fund so that impacted individuals can receive necessary assistance.
