Heatwave In India: Yellow Warning In North For Next 3 Days, Including Delhi. Relief Possible After May 1

The heatwave, which is very intense today, will continue to persist for the next 24-48 hours after which the temperature will drop.

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘Yellow Warning’ for western Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, western UP, MP, and Jharkhand.

However, the IMD said the warning for three days starting April 29, 30, and May 1. The heatwave will be followed by thunderstorms and rain after May 2 due to Western Disturbance.

According to IMD's senior scientist RK Jenamani, Rajasthan, Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana are likely to experience rainfall and thunderstorms from May 2 to 4. So, the temperature from May 2 to 4 will be between 36 degrees to 39 degrees Celsius. 

The heatwave, which is very intense today, will continue to persist for the next 24-48 hours after which the temperature will drop.

The northwestern region of India has seen a rise in temperature, especially since mid-April. A heatwave warning was for Rajasthan, Delhi, Haryana, UP and Odisha as parts of these states recorded temperatures above 45 degrees Celsius on Thursday.

The severe conditions are likely to persist till the first week of May after which chances of rain increase.

IMD data provides a glimpse into the sweltering conditions in north and central India. In Punjab, maximum temperatures were on average 5.4°C above normal. In Haryana, these were 5.1°C over the normal mark.
