Health Ministry Writes To 5 States, Including Maharashtra, On Rising Covid-19 Cases
This comes hours after India on Friday reported a fresh spike in daily Covid-19 caseload with 4,041 fresh infections in last 24 hours, against the 3,712 infections registered the previous day.
Union Health Ministry on Friday wrote Telangana Secretary (Health), Maharashtra Additional Chief Secretary (Health), Karnataka Principal Secretary (Health), Kerala Principal Secretary (Health) and Tamil Nadu Principal Secretary (Health) over increasing number of Covid-19 cases in these states. In the letter Union Health Secy Rajesh Bhushan told the aforementioned states that they must maintain a strict watch and take pre-emptive action if required to control any emerging spread of infection.

The country also reported 10 new Covid fatalities taking the total death toll to 5,24,651.
The active caseload of the country also increased to 21,177 cases, accounting for 0.05 per cent of the country's total positive cases. The recovery of 2,363 patients in the last 24 hours took the cumulative tally to 4,26,22,757. Consequently, India's recovery rate stands at 98.74 per cent.
While the daily positivity rate reported a spike of 0.95 per cent, the weekly positivity rate stood at 0.73 per cent. Meanwhile, Covid-19 vaccination coverage exceeded 193.83 crore on Friday, Union Health Ministry informed.
Meanwhile, Health Ministry had last week also released guidelines amid increasing number of Monkeypox cases being reported from the non-endemic countries. The guidelines have been issued as part of a proactive and risk-based approach for management of Monkeypox and to ensure advance preparedness across the country.
So far, no news case of Moneypox has been reported in India.
The World Health Organization (WHO) report had said that the virus has spread to more than 20 countries, with about 200 confirmed cases and over 100 suspected cases in nations where it is typically not found.
