Vikrant Veer, Superintendent of Police has been suspended today, and Shamli SP Vineet Jaiswal will take charge of Hathras district. "In the Hathras case, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed to suspend the SP, DSP, Inspector and some others officials, based on the preliminary investigation report," the Chief Minister's Office announced.

Narco polygraph tests of SP and DSP to also be conducted, the CMO has said.

The action has been taken in the wake of  the alleged dereliction of duty in the events that led to the death of the 19-year-old victim who was allegedly gangraped and was hastily cremated in the dead of the night in absence of her family members.

Others who have been suspended include Circle officer Ram Shabd, Inspector Dinesh Kumar Verma, Sub-Inspector Jagveer Singh and head constable Mahesh Pal.

As per additional home secretary, all these officers will have to undergo a narco test, along with family members of the deceased, to ascertain the truth behind the incident since both have been giving contradictory statements regarding the incident.

Yogi Adityanath's Tweet:

Earlier in the day, Adityanath had tweeted that his government is committed to women's safety and those who even think of harming their self-respect will face total destruction.

Meanwhile ABP News' team is still continuing its pursuit to visit the family of the victim, even after over 13 hours of opposition by police. ABP News' reporter Pratima Mishra was earlier in the day taken away in police vehicle while she was on her way to the residence of the victim.
