SRINAGAR: The honorarium for Special Police Officers (SPOs) of Jammu and Kashmir, who have been helping security forces to tackle militancy, was increased after the Union Ministry of Home Affairs on Wednesday approved in Jammu and Kashmir. Dilbagh Singh, J&K DGP said “Keeping in mind the work and service by the special police officers (SPO) of Jammu & Kashmir Police, Govt of India has accepted J&K's proposal to increase their honorarium. The proposal was passed in a very short period of time. It will encourage our SPOs.” As per reports, the salary of SPO's will be in three brackets, with 100% raise for SPOs who have been working for 15 years. There will be 50% increase for SPOs completing 5 years and no increase for SPOs who have less than 5 years of service. It is reported that the now, SPOs who have less than 5 years of service would be paid monthly remuneration of Rs 6000. For those who have completed 5 years of service would be paid Rs 9000 per month and those who have completed 15 years of service would be paid Rs 12000 per month. The hike is expected to benefit around 30000 SPOs presently working in the State. In the valley, the terrorists have been adopting the new methods in the past to dissuade police officials and Army jawans from working against them. Very recently, three SPOs and one Police Constable's brother belonging to Jammu and Kashmir police had gone missing in Shopian district and their bullet-ridden bodies were found later after a search operation was launched. Terrorists have been threatening policemen and soldiers of Kashmiri origin especially in the southern part of the state to give up job or face consequences.
