Goa CM Pramod Sawant Tests Coronavirus Positive; Is Asymptomatic And Under Home Isolation

Goa CM Pramod Sawant took to Twitter on Wednesday and announced that he has tested positive for COVID-19. The 47-year-old is asymptomatic and has opted to under home isolation.

In a sudden turn of events, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has contracted the novel Coronavirus. Taking to his Twitter account on Wednesday, Sawant announced that he has tested positive for COVID-19. The 47-year-old is said to be asymptomatic and has opted to under home isolation. "I wish to inform that I have been detected COVID-19 positive. I am asymptomatic and hence have opted for home isolation. I shall continue to discharge my duties working from home. Those who have come in my close contact are advised to take the necessary precautions," Goa CM tweeted.

The development has come a day after the state recorded its highest single day spike in the COVID-19 cases. As per the latest figures provided by the government of India, Goa registered as many as 588 new cases of Coronavirus infection. There were two COVID-19 related deaths reported, pushing the death toll of the state to 194. On whole, state's tally for the Coronavirus till date stands at 18,006. Of these, while 13,850 people have recovered and been discharged from hospitals, 3,962 are still considered to be active in Goa. Meanwhile, India on daily basis continues to record an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases. Going by the daily health bulletin provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India in the last 24 hours registered 69,921 new COVID-19 cases and 819 deaths while the number of active cases stands at 7,85,996. The government data shows that 54 per cent COVID-19 cases are in the 18-44 years age group but 51 per cent deaths are in the 60 years and above age group.
