Muslim man beaten up for attempting to marry Hindu girl at Ghaziabad court

In yet another incident of mob violence, a Muslim man was allegedly beaten up by a group of people at a Ghaziabad court where he had gone to marry a Hindu woman.

NEW DELHI: In yet another incident of mob violence, a Muslim man was allegedly beaten up by a group of people at a Ghaziabad court where he had gone to marry a Hindu woman. A video of the assault on the court premises has gone viral on social media. Sahil, a native of Bhopal, went to the court to register his marriage with a Hindu woman, who hails from Bijnor, on Monday afternoon. As they were discussing the procedure, a group of people attacked the man after receiving information about the couple's inter-faith marriage. The couple works in Noida, where they fell in love and decided to get married. The police personnel at the court saved the man from the attackers. The Ghaziabad Police filed a case in the incident after taking suo-motu action. "We have registered an FIR against two men -- Vinod and Navneet -- and several unknown persons. No arrest has been made so far," Sanjay Panday, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Sihani Gate police station told IANS. Sahil sustained minor injuries while the woman escaped unhurt. The incident comes to light a day after the Centre formed two high-level committees to suggest ways and legal framework to effectively deal with incidents of mob violence and lynching. The Supreme Court had last week asked the central government to enact a law to deal with incidents of lynching and take action on mob violence.
