Fuel Price Hike: Petrol, Diesel Rates Hiked For 14th Time In 16 Days, Total Increase Now Stands At Rs 10

In the national capital, petrol and diesel prices surged by 80 paise on Wednesday, whereas in Mumbai petrol price shot up by 84 paise and diesel price went up by 85 paise.

New Delhi: Prices of petrol and diesel were increased Wednesday for the 14th time since March 22 this year. With the new surge, total increase in the price of petrol and diesel now stands at Rs 10. In the national capital Delhi, petrol and diesel prices surged by 80 paise, reported news agency ANI. 

As per the new tariffs, petrol will now cost Rs 105.41 per litre in the national capital, as compared to Rs 104.61 per litre on Tuesday.  

Consumers will have to pay Rs 96.67 per litre for diesel in Delhi, whihc is a hike of 80 paise from the Tuesday rate of Rs 95.87 per litre.

In the financial capital Mumbai, petrol price Wednesday breached Rs 120 and is being sold at Rs 120.51 per litre, an increase of 84 paise from last day when it cost Rs 119.67 per litre. 

Diesel price in Mumbai too, shot up to Rs 104.77 per litre, which is an increase of 85 paise from Rs 103.92 per litre on Tuesday.

The Opposition has been targeting the government over increase in fuel prices by creating uproar in both the houses of Parliament where the Budget session is underway. 

Senior Congress leader, Rahul Gandhi on Monday had attacked the Centre by calling the government schemes “Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan LOOT Yojana.” He took to Twitter and shared a picture that compared the prices of fuel for a full tank in different vehicles before the BJP government and in 2022.

After a hiatus of four months, fuel prices started to surge on March 22. In November last year, a cut in excise duty on fuel was announced by the government in order to provide relief to consumers. 

The increase in fuel prices is being attributed to rising cost of crude oil in the international market due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and the prices are expected to rise even further.
