New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday condemned the serial blasts in Sri Lanka and said there is no place for barbarism in the region.

He also said that India stands in solidarity with the people of the island nation.

"Strongly condemn the horrific blasts in Sri Lanka. There is no place for such barbarism in our region," he tweeted.

He said, India stands in solidarity with the people of Sri Lanka. "My thoughts are with the bereaved families and prayers with the injured," Modi said.

President Kovind also wrote on Tweeted: "India condemns the terror attacks in Sri Lanka and offers its condolences to the people and government of the country. Such senseless violence, aimed at innocent people, has no place in civilised society. We stand in complete solidarity with Sri Lanka ."

Six near simultaneous explosions rocked three churches and three hotels frequented by foreigners in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday morning, killing more than 140 people and injuring over 400 others, in one of the deadliest blasts in the island nation's history.




Not only PM Modi and President Kovind but other political leaders, actors, sportsperson, among others, condemned the attack, saying India stands in solidarity with Sri Lanka.

Actor-turned-politician, Congress candidate from Mumbai North Urmila Matondkar also observed a 2 minute silence before her public meeting. She wrote on Twitter: "Deeply saddened and shocked to hear about the church bomb blasts in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday..my prayers for those who lost their lives and condolences to their families.. we condemn the terror attack."


Congress leader Shashi Tharoor tweeted: " Shocked & saddened by news of church & hotel bombings in Sri Lanka. Intolerance, bigotry & terrorism sadly know no borders or limits. Profound condolences to the families & my thoughts and prayers for that beautiful & tortured land."
