New Delhi: As campaigning hit new low this election season with many loose-lipped jibes made by the political leaders, a Gujarat minister sparked a fresh controversy by making an objectionable comment against Congress President Rahul Gandhi.

Gujarat’s minister of forest and environment Ganpat Vasava compared the Congress chief to a “dog’s pup”.

The minister in Vijay Rupani’s cabinet said in his speech: “When PM Modi stands up, it seems like Gujarat’s lion is standing, but when Rahul Gandhi stands up it seems like a puppy wagging its tail.”

This is not it, he went on to say that if “Pakistan would serve 'roti' to Rahul Gandhi, he would go there, and if China served him bread , Rahul would go there too”.
Reacting to Vasava’s comments, Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee president Amit Chavda, “BJP leaders show their mentality by giving such statements.”

Ganpat Vasava is an MLA from Gujarat’s Mangrol seat. The 46-year-old leader also served a cabinet minister of Forest and Environment, Tribal Welfare, Law and Parliamentary Affairs in 13th Gujarat Legislative Assembly from December 2012 to November 2014. He was elected to the Assembly for the first time in 2002. This time he became the MLA for fourth time in a row. He was the first tribal leader to serve as speaker and the youngest speaker in the history of assembly in February 2011 and served until December 2012

He was again elected as a speaker of assembly in November 2014 and served till 7 August 2016.
