WATCH: Protest Against Emmanuel Macron In Mumbai, Bhendi Bazar Road Plastered With French President’s Pictures
The protest comes even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed solidarity with France and asserted that India stands with France in its fight against terrorism.
New Delhi: The roads of Mumbai’s Bhendi Bazar were seen plastered with the posters of French President Emmanuel Macron in a bid to mark protests over his statement terming the Nice knife attack incident as 'Islamic terrorist attack'. The protest comes even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed solidarity with France and asserted that India stands with France in its fight against terrorism.

The protestors of Bhendi Bazar, which is primarily a Muslim-populated area, pasted Macron's photos on the roads, walked and drove on them to mark their disagreement.
BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra tweeted the video of the area hitting out at Uddhav government in Maharashtra. He asked Maharashtra government, why was the French President being insulted.
“India stands with France today .. The PM of India has pledged to fight against France against the terrorism that taking place in France. Then why was French President being insulted on the streets of Mumbai?”
This comes a day after Congress MLA Arif Masood led a massive protest against Emmanuel Macron in Bhopal’s Iqbal Maidan. Speaking at the demonstration, Congress MLA Arif Masood demanded that the Union government ask the Indian Ambassador to France to register protest against "anti-Muslim" stand of that country's regime. He accused Macron of supporting offensive cartoons of Prophet Muhammad and intentionally hurting the sentiments of Muslims. The beheading earlier this month of a French teacher who had shown caricatures of the Prophet in class has ignited anew a debate over such depictions, considered blasphemous by Muslims.
