Four Arrested For Attacking Delhi Family At Goa Beach, CM Sawant Says 'Will Not Tolerate'

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant warned reporters on Monday that such actions will not be allowed in the tourist-friendly coastal state.

Police claimed on Monday that four people have been arrested for allegedly assaulting a family from New Delhi at the popular Anjuna beach in North Goa. On social media, a video of the event has gone viral, news agency PTI reported.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant warned reporters on Monday that such actions will not be allowed in the tourist-friendly coastal state.

Earlier in the day, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Mapusa) Jivba Dalvi stated that on March 5, a 47-year-old Delhi resident made a complaint alleging that he and his family members were attacked by a gang armed with belts, a baseball bat, and a knife. According to the First Information Report, they also rained blows on the complaint and others, injuring them (FIR).

Dalvi stated that the preliminary inquiry found that a knife and other weapons were used to inflict harm on the victims' essential organs.

"The accused were identified through CCTV cameras and were arrested on Sunday," he claimed, adding that they are currently working in Goa. He stated that further arrests will be made soon.

Speaking to reporters in Panaji, the chief minister said, "We will not tolerate any violation of the law and order. The law would be strictly enforced. Any illegal act in the tourism business won't be tolerated".

Those in the tourist industry, according to Sawant, should check the backgrounds of their employees before hiring them.

"Today’s violent incident in Anjuna is shocking and intolerable. I have directed the Police to take the harshest action against the perpetrators. Such anti-social elements are a threat to the peace and safety of the people in the State, and will be dealt with strictly," Goa CM had tweeted on Sunday.

The circumstances surrounding the attack and the trigger are being probed, according to the officer.
