New Delhi: Former Bihar Minister RK Rana, who was convicted in the famous fodder scam case along with RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav, died during treatment in AIIMS Delhi on Wednesday.

RK Rana was referred to Delhi AIIMS by Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi, for better treatment after there was an infection in his body due to the accumulation of water in his liver, sources told ABP News.

The former RJD MP was airlifted to Delhi AIIMS earlier in the day along with Lalu Prasad Yadav.

The Rs 950-crore fodder scam relates to the fraudulent withdrawal of public funds from government treasuries in various districts of undivided Bihar.

Lalu Prasad Yadav was also brought to AIIMS Delhi and admitted in a general ward.

The former Bihar chief minister, 73, was first shifted to AIIMS Delhi at around 9 pm on Tuesday after being referred by a medical board of RIIMS after his health condition deteriorated there.

"Prasad was kept under observation in the emergency department overnight. He was evaluated and discharged at around 3 am," PTI quoted a hospital official as saying.

Yadav was brought to the emergency department around 12.30 pm again and has been admitted in a general ward under Dr D Bhowmik, a professor in the department of Nephrology, PTI reported.

"Prasad's creatinine level has increased to 4.6, which was earlier at 3.5. Blood sugar and blood pressure have been fluctuating. The sugar level is hovering between 150 and 200 mg/dl," Dr Vidyapati, who heads the seven-member team of doctors formed by RIMS to treat Prasad, said on Tuesday.

"His kidney is functioning at 15-20 per cent capacity," he had said.
