Foreign Ministers To Focus On Russia-Ukraine Situation, Says Foreign Secy Ahead Of G20 Meeting

Ahead of the G20 meeting of the Foreign Ministers in Delhi, Foreign Secretary Kwatra said that the developing situation of Russia-Ukraine will be an important point of discussion during the meeting. 

New Delhi: Ahead of the G20 meeting of the Foreign Ministers tomorrow, Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra said that the developing situation of Russia-Ukraine will be an important point of discussion during the Foreign ministers' meeting.  He further said that the ministers will be focusing on the Russia-Ukraine situation and what they come out with is important.

“Developing situation of Russia-Ukraine, naturally, it'll be important point of discussion during Foreign ministers meet. Foreign ministers will be focusing on Russia-Ukraine situation,it'll be important to what they come out with,what understanding is developed,” Kwatra said, as quoted by the news agency ANI.

He also said, “issues of the impact of the Russia-Ukraine conflict on the world including economic impact and impact on development will also be focused upon in the meeting.”

The meeting will be held at Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Center in Delhi. This will be the second ministerial meeting under India’s presidency. The meeting is expected to be attended by 40 delegations.  Speaking on India’s position on the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Foreign Secretary said that this is not the era of war and dialogue and diplomacy are the way forward.  

“India's position on the Russia-Ukraine conflict is that 'This isn't an era of war'. Dialogue and diplomacy are the way forward. The agenda is for the foreign ministers to discuss in the meet,” Foreign Secy said as quoted by ANI.

Speaking on the absence of the Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi from the meeting, Kwatra said, “We understand that the Japanese Foreign Minister is not able to come because of his domestic compulsions but we are looking forward to a very active participation, active support in consultation with the Japanese delegation that is coming.”

Talking about the meeting, Vinay Kwatra said that the first session will focus on multilateralism and issues related to food and energy. The second session will focus on four or five key issues including new and emerging threats including counter-terrorism and narcotics, global skill mapping, focus on global talent pools, he added.

Talking about the problem of terrorism, Kwatra said that a clear, strong and all-encompassing message is expected from the meeting.  "What we expect from tomorrow's foreign minister meeting is a very clear, strong and all-encompassing message on problem of terrorism and need for G20 countries to fight against it together. Larger challenge of counter-terrorism & narco-terrorism will be in focus," Foreign Secretary said.
