Flights Between UK And India To Resume Partially From January 8, Says Civil Aviation Minister

India on December 23, imposed a temporary ban on flights to and from the UK following a discovery of a new Covid-19 strain which is 70 per cent more communicable as compared to the normal coronavirus strain.

Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Civil Aviation Minister, on Friday, announced that flights between India and the United Kingdom will resume from January 8. However, the frequency of flights will be capped to 15 per week for each airline career.

“It has been decided that flights between India & UK will resume from 8 Jan 2021. Operations till 23 Jan will be restricted to 15 flights per week each for carriers of the two countries to & from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru & Hyderabad only. DGCA India will issue the details shortly,” Hardeep Singh Puri said in a tweet.

Earlier, the Union Minister on December 30, announced that the temporary ban will be lifted after January 7, in a very restricted manner and the guidelines are yet to be issued by the government.

“Decision has been taken to extend the temporary suspension of flights to & from The UK till 7 January 2021. Thereafter strictly regulated resumption will take place for which details will be announced shortly,” his tweet quoted.

The flight suspension was imposed to curb the spread of mutated Covid-19 cases, until now there are 29 patients in the country that have been infected with the new version of the virus.

Cases of the mutant coronavirus have already been reported in Denmark, Netherlands, Australia, Italy, Sweden, France, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Canada, Japan, Lebanon, and Singapore besides the UK.
