Farmers To Hold Talks With Govt On Day 3, Block Railway Tracks In Punjab: Top Points

Farmers Protest: Amid the logjam with the centre over their demands, farmers are set to hold a third round of talks with the central government with an 'positive mood' to decide on the future course of action. Thursday marks the third day of farmers' 'Delhi Chalo' protest. After two tumultuous days of protest, the farmers are set to block railway tracks in Punjab today to step up agitation against the Centre. The protestors will also be holding a meeting with the government today to decide the next course of action. 

The Bharatiya Kisan Union has stated that farmers will sit on railway tracks at 7 places in Punjab today in protest against the action of the Haryana Police against protesting farmers. According to ABP News sources, the protest is set to take place between 12 PM to 4 PM. Meanwhile, a third round of talks between farmers and the government will take place in Chandigarh today. The meeting will be held at 5 pm in Chandigarh.

Thousands of farmers are present on the borders of Punjab and Haryana to continue the protest march. The Samyukt Kisan Morcha has stated that all toll plazas in Punjab will be free from 11 am to 2 pm, according to sources.

  • On the meeting with ministers today, General Secretary of Punjab Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee, Sarvan Singh Pandher says, "...We are going to attend the meeting in a completely positive mood today and we have full confidence that a positive solution will emerge from this meeting," as quoted by ANI.
  • On Wednesday, a few young farmers, part of the 'Delhi Chalo' march, were flying kites in a bid to bring down a drone deployed by Haryana security personnel to drop tear gas shells on protesters at the Shambhu border near Ambala, as reported by news agency PTI.
  • The protesters were angry over the use of the unmanned aerial vehicle for dropping tear gas canisters. According to PTI, many of the protestors sustained injuries. "We are flying kites to bring the drone down," said one of the young farmers, as quoted by PTI.
  • The ‘Delhi Chalo’ agitation against the Centre is being spearheaded by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha to put pressure on the government for their demand of a law on the minimum support price for crops and loan waivers.
  • Farmers from Punjab have assembled at the Shambhu and Khanauri borders as part of their 'Delhi Chalo' call.
  • On Day 2 of the protest, the 'Delhi Chalo' agitation by farmers from Punjab was contained at the state's border with Haryana.
