EC To Discuss Deferring Punjab Assembly Polls 2022 In View Of Guru Ravidas Birth Anniversary: Sources
Punjab Elections 2022: Earlier on Thursday, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi had urged the Election Commission to postpone the polling date by six days.
The Election Commission will discuss whether the Punjab Elections 2022 can be postponed or not, in a meeting today. The demand to postpone the election date surfaced as many citizens from Punjab would travel to Varanasi in view of Guru Ravidas's birth anniversary on February 16, 2022.
Punjab is set to vote on February 14, 2022. The results are to be announced on March 10, 2022.
"ECI to discuss request of Punjab CM Charanjit S Channi, BJP& Punjab Lok Congress for postponement of Punjab Assembly polls scheduled for Feb 14 as many people from SC community from State likely to visit Varanasi, in view of Guru Ravidas birth anniversary on Feb 16," said ECI Sources to ANI.
Sushil Chandra requesting for “postponement” of the state assembly elections on account of Guru Ravidas Jayanti on February 16.
A large number of SC devotees from Punjab are likely to visit Banaras in Uttar Pradesh from February 10 to 16.
A lot of people from the Scheduled Caste Community which is about 32% of the population of Punjab would visit Banaras in Uttar Pradesh to celebrate the Gurupurb.
