Election Commission Transfers 8 DMs, 12 SPs Across Five States, Cites Decision As 'Regular Review'

The commission announced the election date on March 16 and It is scheduled to be held in seven phases between April 18 and June 1. The counting of votes is slated for June 4.

The Election Commission made a significant move on Tuesday by issuing transfer orders for eight district magistrates and 12 superintendents of police across five states.

This decision emerged as part of the "regular review" by the Commission during a meeting chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, alongside Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, said the EC, as reported by PTI.

All the transferred officials have been instructed to hand over their responsibilities to their immediate subordinates. Furthermore, those relocated will not be assigned any election-related duties until the conclusion of the Lok Sabha polls.

The commission announced the election date on March 16 and It is scheduled to be held in seven phases between April 18 and June 1. The counting of votes is slated for June 4.

Following the directive, the respective state governments are required to furnish a list of names comprising IAS and IPS officers to the Commission. Subsequently, the Commission will select suitable replacements from the provided panel to fill the vacancies created by the transfers.

Transferred Officers

Transfers include the inspectors general of police for Guntur Range, Andhra Pradesh, and Central Range, Odisha. Additionally, officials transferred comprise the district magistrate (DM) of Udalgiri in Assam; DMs, and superintendents of police (SPs) from Bhojpur district, and Nawada district in Bihar.

The DMs of Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur, the SPs of Angul, Behrampur, Khurda, and Rourkela, the SP of Deoghar in Jharkhand, and the DCP (Cuttack) in Odisha have also been transferred.

In Andhra Pradesh, the DMs of Krishna, Ananthpuramu, and Tirupati districts and the SPs of Prakasham, Palnadu, Chittoor, Anathpuramu, and Nellore districts have been transferred.

In a related move, the EC has requested that the Jharkhand chief secretary submit a list of names for officials to fill the positions of deputy inspector general of police (Palamu), IGP (Dumka), and SP (Rural) Ranchi.
