Earthquake Of Magnitude 4.6 Jolts Haryana's Rohtak; Strong Tremors Felt In Delhi-NCR, Punjab
The tremors felt were of high-intensity. As per initial reports, the tremors were also felt in Haryana and Punjab.
New Delhi: Earthquake tremors have been felt in Delhi and the national capital region (NCR) and nearby areas on Friday evening. According to the National Centre for Seismology, the earthquake, with a depth of 3.3-kilometre, occurred at 9.08 pm. It's epicentre was 16 km east-southeast of Haryana's Rohtak district.
The tremors felt were of high-intensity. As per initial reports, the tremors were also felt in Haryana and Punjab. People evacuated their houses in Rohtak after earthquake tremors were felt.
The epicentre of the quake was 16 kilometre outside Rohtak in Haryana. There are no immediate report of loss of life or property due to the earthquake.
The earthquake which jolted Haryana, Punjab and Delhi-NCR came days after two back to back tremors were felt in northeastern region of the country. Delhi alone has been jolted by a series of tremors over the last month. On May 15, a low-intensity earthquake of magnitude 2.2 hit the national capital which was the fourth since April 12. The epicentre was 13 km northwest of Delhi, the National Centre for Seismology (NCS) said. According to the NCS, the nodal agency of the Union government for monitoring of earthquake activity, the tremors were reported at 11.28 a.m. at a depth of 8 km. On April 12, 13 and May 10, mild intensity earthquakes were felt in the region having epicentre in Delhi. In all the three earthquakes also, there were no reports of any damage. Earlier an official from the seismology centre told news agency IANS that Delhi has been witnessing earthquakes in the range of two to three magnitude frequently. However, the official also added that there is nothing to worry about as they are a normal phenomenon.
