Taking cognisance of the recent rape cases in Delhi, the Union Home Ministry met with the police to seek a review of the matters.
New Delhi: The Union Home Ministry on Thursday held a meeting with the Delhi Police taking cognisance of the Nangal and Mayur Vihar rape cases.
Informing about the same, a Home Ministry spokesperson stated that the Delhi Police will file a chargesheet within 30 days of registering the case and both matters will be heard in fast-track special courts.
"As per the directions of the Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, Ministry of Home Affairs reviewed the rape and murder case of a girl child in Nangal area of Delhi and rape of a girl child in Mayur Vihar with Delhi Police," a home ministry spokesperson tweeted.
"The Delhi Police is committed to filing the chargesheet in the court within 30 days of the registration of the case so that the trial of these cases can start at the earliest. Both the cases will be heard in fast-track special courts in Delhi," the MHA stated further.
The Delhi Police's crime branch is investigating the suspicious death of a nine-year-old girl in the Old Nangal village, near Delhi Cantonment. Her parents have alleged that she was raped and then forcibly cremated by a priest and three employees of a crematorium.
Police had earlier revealed that on the basis of the statement by the victim's mother, the charge of rape was added in the FIR. The four suspects, including the priest, have been arrested.
As for the Mayur Vihar case, it was reported that a six-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a 34-year-old man in her neighbourhood.
Previously, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Thursday issued a notice to the police asking for a detailed action taken report in the case.
The panel stated it has been informed that the girl was kidnapped, and raped on August 11 when she was playing outside her house. The child was bleeding and has been referred to the AIIMS hospital, it said.
After Union Home Ministry's meeting over the cases, how the probe unfolds remains to be seen.
