Delhi-NCR News: No Relief For People As Air Remains 'Very Poor' Despite Anti-Pollution Measures

The air quality remained in the'very poor' category in the national capital on Monday morning, as per SAFAR India.

Delhi's air quality on Monday morning remained in the 'very poor' category with the air quality index (AQI) at 322 worsening from 309 on Sunday and 304 on Saturday. According to weather monitoring agencies, the air quality is likely to worsen further due to unfavourable meteorological conditions, reported PTI. The air quality has not improved in the national capital despite several anti-pollution measures adopted by the state government.

Apart from Delhi, the air quality in Noida also remained in the 'Very Poor' category with an AQI of 324 despite slight improvement from the previous day, reported ANI citing the latest data from SAFAR-India.

As far as Mumbai is concerned, overall air quality was recorded in the 'Moderate' category on Monday morning with the AQI at 128 as per SAFAR-India.

Earlier, the AQI in the national capital was 256 on Thursday, 243 on Wednesday and 220 on Tuesday, according to PTI. The air consistently remained in the 'Poor' category  for the entire week, before further worsening to 'Very Poor'. On Saturday, the AQI in Ghaziabad was 291, 272 in Faridabad, 252 in Gurugram, 284 in Noida and 346 in Greater Noida, the agency reported.

Meanwhile, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai urged the Centre to impose a strict ban on buses running on poor diesel in the NCR areas of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana. During an unexpected investigation at the Kashmere Gate interstate bus terminal, the minister learned that all buses registered in these locations were BS III and BS IV vehicles, PTI reported.
