The judge had filed a missing person report with the police, saying his wife had gone to the Malviya Nagar market on Saturday morning and did not return home till late evening.
New Delhi: The South Delhi police said on Sunday that the wife of a local court judge was found dead at her brother’s residence. Her body was found hanging from a ceiling fan, news agency PTI reported. The police also said that three suicide notes were recovered from the flat in Rajpur Khurd Extension.
Quoting a senior police officer, the PTI report said the Saket court judge informed the police around 10:30 pm on Saturday that his wife had been to the Malviya Nagar market around 11.30 am but did not return. Following this, a missing person complaint was filed at the police station.
During investigation, the police found out through CCTV footage that the 42-year-old woman had boarded an auto-rickshaw. The auto-driver later informed the police during inquiry that he had dropped the judge’s wife in Rajpur Khurd.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Benita Mary Jaiker told PTI that the judge confirmed that his brother-in-law lived in the area.
The judge then went to his residence along with the police where they found the flat to be latched from outside. When the police entered the flat by breaking the iron grills, they found the woman's body hanging from a ceiling fan, the DCP told PTI, adding that a ‘dupatta’ had been used.
The officer also said that the investigation into the case was on. "It was a vacant flat on the first floor. Her brother's family lives on the second floor. Three suicide notes were also found. The body has been shifted to AIIMS mortuary," she was quoted as saying.
