NEW DELHI: International athlete Palender Chaudhary has reportedly committed suicide on Tuesday evening inside his hostel at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium in the national capital. "Palender Chaudhary, an 18-year-old sprinter, has allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan inside his hostel room in athletics academy at Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru stadium," News agency ANI reported on Wednesday. A Sports Authority of India official said he was informed that an argument broke out between Chaudhary and his father over phone on Tuesday. "I was told he had an argument on phone with his father in the morning yesterday. Later his sister came to talk to him too. Unfortunately, we could not save him despite our best efforts," he said. Chaudhary, who hailed from Aligarh, was recently selected to the Army through sports quota. The sprinter was taken to a hospital in the evening where doctors said he was 'brain dead'. Later in the night, he was declared dead. No suicide note has been recovered, the police said. (More details awaited).
