2 Children Injured, 1 Trapped Under Debris After House Collapses In Delhi's Zakhira Area Amid Rains
Two children were injured and one is said to be trapped under the debris of a house that collapsed due to the heavy rainfall in Delhi's Zakhira area.
A house collapsed in Delhi's Zakhira area due to heavy rains, injuring 2 children. The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) reached the spot where the incident occurred on Sunday. According to ANI, officials said that the DFS received the information about the housing collapse at 9:34 am from the Zakhira locality on July 9. Three to four fire tenders reached the sport after they received the information about the incident. After removing the debris from the collapsed house, they discovered and rescued two children who were stuck under the building and had sustained injuries.
The two children were quickly rushed to the hospital to be treated for their injuries. According to the Delhi Fire Service (DFS) officials, search and rescue operations are underway to find if there are more children trapped under the debris. The Fire Services continued their search for another child who may be trapped under the debris.
Atul Garg, Director, Delhi Fire Service, told ANI, that they received 15 calls on Sunday, the highest in a day. As it rained very heavily, several old structures or under-construction buildings collapsed, one of which was in Zakhira. He also stated that waterlogging posed a challenge during transportation.
Explaining the incident, Garg said that no one lived in the building which collapsed, but children were playing in it. The two children quickly shifted to the hospital, however, they are continuing the search operation for the other child.

In another incident, the boundary wall of a government school at Garhi Jharia Maria in East Kailash collapsed on Saturday due to heavy rainfall.
Delhi recorded 153 mm of rain in 24 hours ending 8:30 on Sunday, the highest in a single day in July since 1982, the India Meteorological Department said. An interaction between the monsoonal winds and western disturbance has led to heavy rainfall over northwest India, which includes Delhi which received its very first “very heavy” rainfall.
